SqMV Overview:

Squash Mosaic Virus is a systemic infection commonly found in squash, cucumber, pumpkin, melon and gourds. SqMV is a major seed-transmitted disease of cucurbits, and most of the outbreaks of the virus can be traced to infected seeds. Symptoms include severe mosaic discoloration and mottling of leaves. First identified in California in 1934--and reported there consistently for the last 30 years--it is a worldwide problem that is difficult to control and often results in economic damage and crop loss. According to the USDA, SqMV can cause considerable loss in late-season squash, which makes up a large portion of the annual cucurbit harvest valued at $2.2 Billion to U.S. growers.

Product Overview:

The QualiPlate Kit for SqMV is an ELISA test for detecting the SqMV pathogen. Developed by EnviroLogix to detect the virus in seed and leaf tissue, the test is very sensitive, and provides users with unique testing flexibility and speed.

For seed and leaf testing, the QualiPlate Kit for SqMV is several times more sensitive than any other ELISA plate available today. An alternative dilution protocol is offered in case less sensitivity is desired.

The test can be run in as little as two (2) hours, or using overnight incubation it can be fit easily into a 24-hour work flow. The ability to switch between protocols and run times is a major factor in the value of the QualiPlate to the industry. And the Kit meets users’ needs for testing to US, EU or other standards.

EnviroLogix’ QualiPlate Kit for SqMV can be used to test a variety of cucurbit seed types. The kit is packaged with all the components necessary to run the test (additional extraction buffer may be needed to test some types of cucurbit seed). The pre-coated, quality checked plate can be ordered in either a solid or removable strip format. Testing can be performed the same day the kit is received, and can be done without highly technical equipment or facilities.
