Development Scientist - Molecular Diagnostics




General Summary: The primary responsibility of this position is to develop the NEAR (Nicking Enzyme Amplification Reaction) based molecular diagnostics assays into final product form with desired product specifications. Responsibilities also include pilot lot production and product characterization.

Duties Include:
  • Produce product prototypes based on product design and performance objectives
  • Conduct test protocols, procedures, and product evaluation
  • Scale up the production process and define process parameters to ensure quality is maintained during large-scale production
  • Implement process controls and devise test methods to assess the production process
  • Ensure compliance with the finished product specifications
  • Define assay-specific product claims with substantiation
  • Maintain appropriate records and write technical reports


Skills Required:
  • Practical laboratory skills in molecular biology with aseptic technique
  • Understanding of assay development
  • Excellent organization skills and the ability to work on several tasks concurrently
  • An aptitude for statistics and highly developed IT skills is desired
  • Ability to accurately present ideas and to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment


Education Requirements: BA/BS degree in biology with 3-5 yrs experience or M.S. degree in molecular biology with 1-2 yrs experience


Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in both a laboratory and office environment
  • Ability to utilize a PC and keyboard
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
