Computer & Network Maintenance Technician



Job Description

This position is responsible for supporting computing and telecommunication network operations and procedures. The Technician works to support telephone systems, maintenance of the voice mail system, and is also responsible for supporting personal computers, peripheral equipment, networks, servers, and communications equipment, as well as providing support for users’ software and hardware needs.

Duties Include:
  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, upgrade, install, configure and perform testing activities on various computer equipment, peripherals, data communication and computer network systems
  • Develop and maintain software and hardware inventory and tracking systems; develop inventory lists and order, stock, and store electronic components
  • Perform moves, additions, deletions and other changes for phone usage. Provide phone support and training to new users and solve miscellaneous phone problems
  • Configure and set up servers and workstations to work with various programs; install and maintain software
  • Ensure server backups and networked user backups are performed on a regular basis
  • Provide primary support to users relating to both hardware and software problems on their personal computers
  • Perform preventive maintenance for computer, data communication, and/or peripheral equipment; test and adjust to appropriate standards
  • Maintain computer network documentation
  • Report regularly to the Network Manager all items pertaining to the above tasks
  • Perform all duties in compliance with Company Policies
  • Ensure that all employees adhere to Company policies
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Skills and Experience Required:
  • Two years of postsecondary training in applicable field - e.g. Associates degree or technical certifications
  • Minimum of 2 - 5 years directly related experience
  • A+, Network, and/or Microsoft certifications preferred
  • Exchange experience helpful (e mail and calendars)
  • Active Directory (Server 2003 or 2008) experience
  • Electronic repair experience helpful
  • Customer service orientation
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize support requests

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds for short periods of time
  • Must be able to work within office and laboratory environments
  • Must be able to utilize a keyboard for extended periods of time
