Scientist - Rare Reagents

General Summary: The primary responsibilities of this position are to develop, purify, characterize, and supply antibodies and proteins for new product development projects and manufacturing of current products.


Duties Include:
  • Follow established protocols for purifying monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies
  • Perform affinity chromatography in both gravity and AKTA prime semi-automated formats following written protocols
  • Estimate timeline for completion of assigned tasks accurately
  • Prepare buffers needed in planned processes in a timely manner
  • Run and evaluate HPLC, SDS, IEF, Zonal gel analysis on requested samples
  • Design and run ELISA plates as part of qualifying antibodies and conjugates, evaluate data appropriately
  • Order department supplies in a timely manner to avoid critical material shortage
  • Notify department manager in a timely manner of any issues that may arise
  • Review any issues with Supervisor or manager in a timely manner
  • Operate department equipment efficiently including pH meter, spectrophotometer, gel electrophoresis, concentrators, filtration etc.

Reports to: Manager of Rare Reagents Manufacturing

Skills Required:
  • Experience running ELISA plates, HPLC, various chromatography systems
  • Accurate and complete documentation
  • Attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of purification and characterization methods related to proteins and antibodies
  • Accurate and timely communication with others in the department
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to plan ahead and identify problems early in the process

Requirements: BA or BS in a science, 2-5 yrs experience in cell culture/antibody development

Physical Requirements:
  • Be able to work in both a laboratory and office environment
  • Able to utilize a PC and keyboard
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time
