Envirologix: Putting Science to the Test

Dr. Breck Parker Joins EnviroLogix

August 2, 2010 -- Dr. Breck Parker, formerly a Strategic Development Leader for GE Healthcare-Life Sciences Consumables Division, joined the EnviroLogix team on July 1 as Vice President, Molecular Diagnostics Product Development.

Breck has a BS in Biochemistry and a PhD in Molecular Pharmacology from the University of Massachusetts. At GE, he was on an international assignment focused on the exploration of ideas for future R&D projects, technical analysis of potential acquisitions, and the generation of strategic collaborations to help commercialize new projects. He also directed the commissioning of new laboratory areas for forensics and molecular biology.

Prior to GE, Breck was the Development Manager for Whatman where he established a new molecular biology and forensics DNA technology group and lead the invention and development of the hugely successful EasiCollect™ buccal sample collection device widely used by the FBI, state crime labs, and many foreign forensics agencies. He has also held positions with Eppendorf-5 Prime as Senior Director, R & D where he focused on the development of new kits for real time PCR, sample preparation, novel thermophilic DNA Polymerase discovery and application development.

He served as a Senior Scientist and was later promoted to Development Manager for New Product Development at Schleicher & Schuell BioSciences, Inc. While at S&S, he was responsible for managing the Molecular Biology portfolio including the nucleic acid blotting products, the sample preparation developments for forensics and genomics, and the Dried Blood Spot technology feeding the global neonatal newborn screening diagnostic programs. He was also instrumental in spearheading the development of the modified FAST slide surface for DNA and protein arrays; his group developed six different multiplexed micro-ELISA based quantitative protein kits called FAST Quant™. In addition, his group developed and released the first Cancer Biomarker Protein Array chip that consisted of approximately 120 cancer biomarkers; it was the first of its type to reach the marketplace. Breck began his career with Hybridon Diagnostics in Cambridge, MA as the primary Senior Scientist focused on the development of novel molecular diagnostics for the detection of HIV, HCV, HPV and a variety of related infectious pathogens.
