EnviroLogix has established the ability to detect RNA trait (tNOS) in Arctic® Apples. This is new territory in the detection of genetically edited traits as these new crop traits are not stacked with traditional transgenic protein GMO traits. Because of this, rapid molecular detection methods were required.

The Arctic® Apple is a non-browning variety of apple developed by Okanagan Specialty Fruits using RNAi technology, where small specific RNA molecules are produced by the cell through bioengineering to reduce the expression of target genes and create a trait of interest.

The study: Arctic® Apple and conventional apple samples were gathered and ground for comparison. The test determined whether CalRed610 (tNOS assay beacon) was present in either sample; the EnviroLogix duplexed assay demonstrated 100% accuracy in all samples tested, with a time to result in 6 minutes or less.
