Supporting STEM Education
Portland Public Schools and EnviroLogix have partnered to encourage the scientists of the future. We sponsored the first annual Portland STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Expo for local middle and high school students in 2014, and every year since then. The event continues to grow and serves the community as an ideal venue for students and business in the STEM field to showcase their work and foster interest in STEM. Our staff scientists routinely visit students in Portland classrooms as well, to support their science curriculum, answer questions and provide hands-on learning opportunities.
We support the Preble Street Teen Center with annual Thanksgiving food drives and clothing collections, to help local teens in distress get through the harsh Maine winters. We host Red Cross blood drives, build houses with Habitat for Humanity, and provide volunteer service at many other valuable community organizations like STRIVE, the Iris Network and the Maine Wildlife Park.
Protecting Our Environment
EnviroLogix is committed to making a lasting difference. In 2014, we adopted a section of the Portland Trails - a nonprofit land trust that preserves the local environment for public access - and lend a hand with cleanup and maintenance. We have also had the privilege of volunteering to repair and maintain green spaces within the Royal River Conservation Trust. Our Sustainability Team works on implementing new ways for us to lessen our environmental footprint. In 2015, we added composting to our existing recycling program in an effort to further reduce waste.

Employee Spotlight: Russ Roberts, Lab Technician
Russ Roberts has done a little bit of everything at EnviroLogix. A flexible employee and creative thinker, he has flourished in every role. Russ was hired to work in our busy shipping department in 2005. He loved the hands-on, physical nature of the job, but moved into the rare reagents lab in 2007 to help out with washing dishes, reagent purification and other projects. As our small company continued to grow, he later transitioned into an R & D lab. “People believed in me and in the quality of my work, and I kept proving that I could do it,” Russ explains. He is currently a Lab Tech, developing rapid lateral flow tests for on-site mycotoxin detection. With his educational background in computer science, he also frequently assists with Information Technology support and troubleshooting.
When asked what has kept him with the company for 12+ years, Russ simply says, “I get a taste of everything I like, and I enjoy the mental stimulation of science and computers. I love the people here and I love what I do.” What else does Russ love? His favorite movie is Napoleon Dynamite (and his favorite animal is pretty much a liger).
